The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has taken steps to complement the uninterrupted power supply currently being enjoyed in the the State with the laying of foundation for an Electricity Meter Manufacturing Company.
The Company, Metering Solutions Manufacturing Services Limited cited in Onna Local Government Area, is a hi-tech Chinese Firm with Nigerian partners founded to provide world class Electricity Meters and Meter Box Enclosures for reliable Metering and revenue generation.
Performing the ground breaking, Governor Udom Emmanuel, described the event as an unwavering commitment of his administration to create wealth and employment through industrialisation.
He added that with the increase power generation from one hundred and ninety one to six hundred and ninety five megawatts, the meter manufacturing plant would facilitate accurate billing and described electricity as the driver of modern development stating that the manufacturing plant is another bold step towards industrialising the State.
Governor Emmanuel reiterated his commitment to work towards realising the Akwa Ibom project and urged the people to reject satanic campaign propagated by the opposition with the sole aim of returning the people to servitude.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, remarked that the Governor has added another feather to his cap of making Akwa Ibom the industrial hub of Nigeria by vigorously pursuing the ideals of industrialisation. He said that the meter assembling plant would bring about other complementary industrial concerns in the area and that no fewer than one hundred and fifty indigenes of the State would secure employment in the company which will flood its products by first quarter of next year.
Also, the Managing Director, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Mathew Edevbia, commended the state government for aligning with the emerging market in the electricity subsector. He said that the problem of electricity distribution and billing is reduced with the birth of the Meter Assembling Plant in Akwa Ibom State and commended the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for his resilience in attracted the company which he noted, was sort after by other states.
Mr Edevbia called on the host community to support government’s effort by making the area conducive for the company to operate, explaining that in the long run, the company would attract subsidiary firms to open shops and foster development in the area.
The Principal Partner and Management Representatives, Meter Solutions Manufacturing Services Limited, Mr Paul Otobrisa, said that the company is making an investment of approximately One hundred million naira into the Factory Complex for the manufacture and assemble of Electricity Meters and Meter Box Enclosures.
He added that the factory will produce 300,000 units per year of single phase electricity meters and 100,000 units per year of meter box enclosures. This, according to him will be followed with the production of 30,000 units per year of three phase electricity meters.
While commending the host community for donating the land for the citing of the company, Mr Otobrisa assured that the good intension of the land owners would transform Awa Iman community to an industrial park.
The House of Assembly member for Onna State Constituency, Hon. Nse Essien, and Clan Head of Awa, Eteidung Maxwell Umoren, thanked the Governor for incoperating Onna in his industrialisation programme and prayed for the sustainability of the project.
