The State Government and four villages in Uyo Local Government Area have signed an agreement for peace to reign in the four communities which play host to Champion Breweries Plc, at Aka Offot Industrial Estate/Banking Layout. The villages are: Aka Offot, Nung Oku, Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan and Itiam Ikot Ebia.
The peace process, which became operational from January 1, 2016 was endorsed on behalf of the State Government by the Executive Chairman of AKICORP, Dr. Elijah Akpan while Eteidung Francis Morgan, Village Head and Christian John, Youth President signed for Aka Offot; Eteidung Clement Ekeng, Village Head and Akan Edem, Youth President for Nung Oku; Eteidung Oko Umoren, Village Head and Anietie Obot, Youth President for Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan and Eteidung Essien Timothy, Village Head and Andikan Ekpenyong, Youth President for Itiam Ikot Ebia.
Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, AKICORP, Barr. Emmanuel Umoh, witnessed for the State Government, as well as Barristers Sylvester Akpan and Abasiodiong Ekpenyong appended as witnesses for Aka Offot and the three host communities. The agreement signed by the two parties at AKICORP’s Conference Room, Uyo last Friday, henceforth treats Aka Offot Industrial Estate/Banking Layout as one entity for the four communities.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Elijah Akpan said industrialization or meaningful development of any given community or State thrives in atmosphere of peaceful co-existence, fairness, equality and justice devoid of rancor, restiveness or violence.
Dr. Akpan, who is also the Chairman, Board of Directors of Champion Breweries Plc, reminded the people of the five-point Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel administration which includes wealth and job creation, poverty reduction and political and economic inclusion, describing as unacceptable any plan by a group or persons to marginalize Akwa Ibom people which is not part of the agenda.
The AKICORP Boss solicited the co-operation of the host and would-be host communities of, not only Champion Breweries Plc and existing banks, but of all the soon-to-be-established industries and banks, not only in the Aka Offot Industrial Layout/Banking Layout, but also in the State as a whole, for meaningful development to thrive.
Dr. Akpan urged them and Akwa Ibom people to always accommodate their neighbouring communities, and expressed optimism that investors will flourish Aka Offot Industrial Layout/Banking Layout and the state with more industries.
The Managing Director of Champion Breweries Plc, Mr. Sharm Kulkarni represented by Barr. Okon Ekong, lauded AKICORP Boss for recording a landslide victory through the signing of the vital document.
He used the occasion to reassure the host communities of his Company’s commitment to fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility to them, and called on the relevant parties to respect the agreement.
Earlier, Eteidung Francis Morgan and Eteidung Clement Ekeng, Village Heads of Aka Offot and Nung Oku respectively, had expressed appreciation to the State Government for the agreement aimed at ensuring progress and development of their communities and the State in general.
They expressed their readiness and that of their subjects to embrace the peace accord and comply with the conditions contained in the MOU towards ensuring peace and togetherness in their domains as a means of encouraging government’s effort on industrialization.
