Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has enjoined Christians to use the Easter Celebration to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ who was without guilt yet died for the redemption and reconciliation of mankind to God.
He stated this at United Evangelical Church, (Founded as Qua Iboe Church) NO 165 Aka Road, Uyo , saying that the celebration of Easter compels every Christian to let go self indulgence and seek the good of fellow mankind and appealed to the church to set the tone for the re unification of Qua Iboe church to suit the vision of its founding father Rev. Samuel Bill who brought Christianity to this part of the world.
The Governor observed that if the crucifixion of the son of God had brought the Jews and the Gentiles under one fold, no member of the Church has the justification to mortgage the vision of the founding fathers to promote discord in the body of Christ and urged all to pull down the walls of separation and restore the status quo.
He commended Qua Iboe Church for upholding the doctrine of the founder and keeping the torch of evangelism aglow and pledged to support the Church building project to completion emphasising that the Church has contributed to the socio-economic development of the country in the areas of health care and establishment of educational institutions.
In an homily, the resident Minister Rev. Udeme Akpan who preached on the theme “This Man is the son of God” culled his text from Mathew 27 verses 46-54 said that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ brought liberty to all captives and the mystery of his death compelled all the galaxies to stand still and darkness filled the earth ushering in a new phase in creation.
The Cleric noted that the significant occurrences during the crucifixion affirmed by the thief on the Cross and Centurion who confessed to Jesus being the son of God was truly the Messiah and urged all to appreciate God for this wonderful sacrifice of his son which has brought healing and protection by the mention of the name Jesus who forgive the sins of the vilest offender saying such Grace is sufficient to all who truly believe.
Highpoint of the Easter Service was the presentation of Souvenir by the Church to Governor Udom Emmanuel and his Deputy, Mr Mosses Ekpo.
