The Infrastructural Consolidation and Expansion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s led administration in Akwa Ibom State has materialised with the commissioning of a new Secretariat Annex located along Udo Udoma Avenue to mark the anniversary celebration of the administration.
The Secretariat which is meant to accommodate the Ministry of Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs other Ministries, Departments And Agencies was built eighteen years ago by previous administration as the tenth Anniversary Hotel but abandoned to serve as nest for criminals who used it to perpetuate their nefarious activities.
Commissioning the edifice, Governor Emmanuel said his administration decided to rehabilitate the facility for it to serve the accommodation needs of government to underscores the infrastructural consolidation and expansion thrust of his administration.
Mr Emmanuel congratulated the Commissioner for Housing And Urban Renewal, Mr Enoobong Uwah for giving the edifice a face lift saying it has added to the beauty of the metropolis being a five star secretariat complex.
The State Chief Executive said the Ministry of Works and its mechanical maintenance workshop has been assigned space in the building and reaffirmed his commitment to consolidate on the superior performance put in place for the people of the State.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr Enobong Uwah congratulated the Governor for the vision transforming an hitherto abandoned project into an edifice explaining that the structure which has two hundred offices all end-suit, two emergency exits, a lift, clinic, two gate houses and other facilities, is designed to meet the present day digital office standard.
He said three hundred workers were employed during the project execution, on casual basis, to ensure the speedy completion of the project and used the occasion to expressed appreciation to the team of engineers, architects, surveyors, artisans and other professionals that worked tirelessly to ensure it early completion.
The Permanent Secretary of the Housing and Urban Renewal Ministry, Dr Valeria Obot said that Governor Udom Emmanuel is in a hurry to develop the state the prevailing economic situation notwithstanding and thanked the Governor for the approval granted for the job execution.
The Clan Head of Etoi, Eteidung Okuku Edet Udoabasi thanked the Governor for transforming the once neglected structure to a digital edifice and expressed delight that the structure has enhance the aesthetics of the area.
He therefore appealed to the State Government to appoint people of the catchment community into positions of authority and assured of the cooperation of the Community to the administration.
