A’Ibom ICT Revolution: Udom’s Industrialisation Elixir

Mr Solomon Eyo, Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on ICT

By Solomon Eyo

No matter how fascinating a product might be, if the world does not know it, it does not exist. This explains the essence of being known through advertising. And in today’s world, advertising, through Information Communication Technology, has been taken a notch higher than what traditional advertising ever offered.

As such, when His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel created the office of the Special Assistant on ICT, and graciously appointed my humble self to man the office, he simply gave credence to his pedigree as a visionary and global player who knows his onion. What he did by the action was to enhance the visibility and presence of Akwa Ibom in the global community, leveraging on the various platforms available through ICT. His mission is to showcase Akwa Ibom as a global brand to the world using ICT tools.

A technocrat, whose craft includes safeguarding sacred mandates, the Governor has left no one in doubt about his managerial sagacity and earnest desire to turn Akwa Ibom into an industrial hub.

To achieve his objectives, he has deployed superior and 21st Century compliant strategies. Despite the economic challenges in the country, the quest for a greater Akwa Ibom is being achieved using cost effective models with controlled timelines.

In the discharge of the responsibilities of my office, I have been responsible for providing a professionally designed, secured and highly interactive web portal for the state government, http://www.akwaibomstate.gov.ng Also, I have catalogued a comprehensive investment opportunities profile of Akwa Ibom State and embed same on the state website.

As value addition to investors visiting our state, the ICT Aide’s Office has developed, and is ready to go public with a subdomain http://www.directory.akwaibomstate.gov.ng known as Explore Akwa Ibom State – this site is more of a directory for guests who may wish to know what exists where, how and at what cost within State.

Owing to the creation of the office of ICT aide to the Governor, Akwa Ibom State Government activities are now viewed in Online Real Time video. Also budgetary estimates, available on http://www.akwaibomstate.gov.ng, is promoting transparency and citizen participation in governance. His Excellency sure knows how to engage capacities for cost management and high productivity.
It is heartwarming and humbling that the positive contributions of the ICT aide’s office to promoting and enhancing a digital Akwa Ibom, as envisioned by Governor Udom Emmanuel has been acknowledged by many, including His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, who said our State is one of the few in Nigeria with thriving digital economy. This will definitely challenge us to work harder.

Therefore, as a youth marking my birthday today, I wish to encourage Akwa Ibom youths to take advantage of the ongoing AKEES ICT Training made possible by the vision and magnanimity of the Governor. The training, anchored by a seasoned resource manager, Elder Ufot Ebong, is designed to advance our ICT knowledge-base, as an integral part of the industrialization plans of this administration. We should do all we can, to work with what works. This administration is working, let us all pledge and give our undivided support in the march towards a Greater Akwa Ibom.

I thank God Almighty the giver of life.

I earnestly thank my His Excellency, the ICT friendly Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the opportunity to serve my state in this capacity; my Pastor, Prophet (Dr) John Linus for his relentless prayers; the Ministries of Information and Science & Technology for providing conducive and wonderful working environments; my family, for their support; colleagues and friends, especially members of the Coalition of Online Publishers Akwa Ibom State, COOPA; and finally my Diamond, Pharm. Goodnews for being a great source of inspiration.

To God be the Glory!
