The Stakeholders and the entire political class of Ikono under the auspices of Ikono People Consultative Forum (IPCF), Elders Council of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Stakeholders of Ward 8 in Ikono Local Government Area have strongly condemned the recent media attack on their son, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, the Political Leader of Ikono as published in a recent article published in The INK, Global Post newspapers and on social media accusing him of anti-party activities in the just concluded 2015 general elections.
In the release issued at the end of meetings of Ikono People Consultative Forum (IPCF) and Ndiya Usung Ikot Idaha Elders Council held in Ikono L.G.A on Thursday, and signed by Engr. Edet Umotong for IPCF and the Executives of Ndiya/Ikot Idaha Elders Council including Ward 8 PDP Executive Committee, stated that “Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo popularly known as Marcaire is an illustrious son of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha, who has earned the respect of all by his conduct and pragmatics leadership which has brought peace and equal participation into Ikono. He emerged the political leader of Ikono through the unanimous decision of stakeholders of Ikono including PDP Stakeholders, Elders, women and youths and he is not struggling with anybody for the position as peddled by mudslingers in the said publication.
“Our concern about the article is that it is replete with lies and deliberate falsehood concocted by persons who are not only enemies of progress, but also seek to impede the development of Ikono as a Local Government and political entity”.
We would not have bothered to comment on this article but because Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, a true son of Ikono and Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha, who has not left anybody in doubt over his love for Ikono may be wrongly construed by the general public who might be misinformed by the ill-intended article. It therefore behooves us to set the records right by refuting the heinous article in categorical terms as follows;
“That we, the Stakeholders of Ikono and Elders of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Ward 8 are fully in support of the leadership of Obong Emmanuel Ukpongudo – Marcaire as the political leader of Ikono, that has in the last one year in this capacity distinguished himself as a true leader, surpassing the expectation of critics. He has through his conduct and pragmatic leadership approach earned the respect, admiration and reputation of all including elders, youths, women and others in Ikono and beyond.
“That Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo has given effective leadership politically to Ikono Local Government Area and Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Ward 8. There is no rancor, acrimony, and political discord in Ikono Ward 8, to justify the purported fictions stated in the article, thus making the allegation a mere figment of the imaginations of the author. The allegation is therefore hollow, baseless and unfounded. We, Ikono Stakeholders, Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Elders Council and the PDP Stakeholders in Ward 8 shall continue to support Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, cooperate with him as our political leader to offer the right leadership to Ikono.
“That Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo is a staunch member of the People Democratic Party, a leader in his own capacity, that has remained focused, committed to the ideals of the party and has worked assiduously for the success of the Party in Ikono in the past elections. In the 2015 general elections, he proved his mettle by ensuring that PDP scored victory in all the eleven (11) wards of Ikono. He has not at any time been involved in activities that are inimical to the growth and success of the PDP contrary to what the ill-fated article stated.
“That Obong Ukpong-udo most often single-handedly funds PDP activities in the area from his personal earnings. He is committed and passionate about the success of PDP in Ikono and therefore the allegation as peddled by the article are false and misleading to the general public.
“That Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha, Ikono Ward 8 – the ward with the highest number of registered voters in Ikono (aka the vote basket of Ikono) is PDP stronghold and shall continue to support PDP in the years ahead. We shall continue to support the right course, with Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo as our leader, while thanking our Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his developmental strides in the State particularly at this time.
“Finally, we, the Elders and PDP Stakeholders of Ikono and Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha, Ikono Ward 8 hereby call on members of the public to discountenance the lies-ridden article. Persons and organization mentioned in the said article are fictitious, faceless and unfounded. The article is nothing but a figment of imagination of hatchet mercenaries, whose pre-occupation is to cast tar on peoples’ reputation, assassinate their characters to satisfy interest of their paymasters. We therefore say emphatically; “enough of this political blackmail!”
