Rights Group Petitions Buhari Over Judiciary Manipulation Attempts By Amaechi

The Niger Delta Youth Advocacy Group has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to caution the Minister of Transport, Rt. (Hon) Rotimi Amaechi.

The Warri, Delta State-based rights group, in an open letter jointly signed by its President-General, Victor Odeidun and Secretary, Godspower Emmanuel to the President, made available to journalists and published on the internet, said, former Governor Amaechi, “has been engaging in series of actions capable of undermining the peace, unity and stability of the Niger Delta Area, and by extension, the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The statement further noted “we have it on good authority that Rt. (Hon) Amaechi claims to be on a special mission designated by Mr. President for the forceful takeover of Rivers and Akwa Ibom States by the APC, and Abia State through another party, APGA.”  This,  it said, “has been reinforced by the recent judgments delivered by the Court of Appeal, which Amaechi claims he purchased in respect of the governorship elections in the three states…”

Expressing confidence that “Their Lordships, the Justices of the Supreme Court,  are men of unwavering integrity,” the group mentioned that it “Rt. (Hon) Rotimi Amaechi has been driving himself at odd hours to the homes of Supreme Court Justices, where he offers them all kinds of inducements to ensure the pervasion of justice in favour of the APC in governorship petition cases on Rivers, Akwa Ibom States and APGA  in the case of Abia State.”

The group, which stated that it was not advocating for the government and people of the three States, however mentioned that as conscience of the society, which believed in the Nigerian project, and that ” this act of impunity and crass abuse of public thrust by Rt. (Hon) Rotimi Amaechi whose actions are cankerous and inimical to the unity of the Country, shrinking the Country’s democratic space and the process of democratic consolidation.”

The advocacy which further alleged that  Amaechi  had boasted the Presidency ”handed him  the NDDC to use fund the possible re-run Governorship elections in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia States, and recoup the investment he allegedly pumped into APC’s campaign in 2015” appealed to the President to thoroughly investigate the allegations and call the Minister for Transport  to order, before he destroys the reputation of the Presidency, the Judiciary as well as hamper the fragile peace, unity and stability of the South-South, South-East geo-political zones, and by extension the Nigerian nation
